Hidden Safari
We used warm and cool colors to make a hidden picture. First we drew an animal in a cool color then created a pattern with warm colors over the top of the animal. We could only see the animal if we used some red cellophane glasses.

Extension Activity
This could be used in math to hide the answers to the problems so the students have to solve the problem before they get to see the answer.

Silhouette Art
This was created using different water color techniques for the background and cutting out black pieces for the silhouettes.

Extension Activities
Students could make different paintings based on different regions of the world.

Illustrating Gestures
This was an interesting activity. We used transparency sheets and makers to draw another person's face while they made different expressions. We then copied those faces onto a piece of paper and painted over the faces. We also had to write about each expression.

Extension Activities
Students could do this same activity but the stories could be longer, with more detail.

Sandpaper Art
For this lesson we colored very hard on a piece of sand paper. Then we ironed them onto another piece of paper making a print. You can color over the sandpaper multiple times to make more prints. The hardest part of this project was coloring hard enough to make the image transfer onto another piece of paper.

Extension Activities
Students could create specific patterns found in different cultures.
Students could make landscapes or other images. These would be harder for younger students but might be better to use with older classes.

Notan Collage
Notan is a Japanese art form that uses contrasting colors. After we chose our 2 colors we folded one piece and cut out shapes then glued them onto the other color paper. The pieces we cut out we also glued on creating positive and negative space while keeping the piece balanced. This activity was really cool but after looking at the colors I used for while my eyes and head started hurting because the contrast was so strong.

Extension Activity
Use this activity to work with students on shapes. Give the students directions of which shapes to cut out.

Masks
We created a 3D mask that used different paper folding techniques. I loved this activity!

Extension Activities
Explore different cultures' uses of masks, how they are made and what they are used for.

Crafts
We made spring crafts during this lesson. First we broke down each part of the craft into sections making each piece individually first. Then we made our final art piece by putting all those elements together.
First we made a Ziploc bag full of tissue paper into a butterfly then we used pastel color paints to create flowers.

Extension Activity
Students could create different art pieces like this for each season.

Eric Carle Art

Eric Carle Art

Eric Carle has a very unique method to create art. He paints tissue paper to make his textures, colors and patterns. He sketches his image onto another piece of paper then cuts the shapes out of the paper he has painted. Then glues them onto another piece creating his art work.

Extension Activity
Write a short story and use this technique to illustrate the story.
